This cohort-based course includes live video masterclasses with Bernard, practical advice, Q&As, weekly assignments, resources, analysis of great works, and the development of artistic expression through sound, vibrato, and phrasing.
Bernard Wacheux welcomes students with a strong music background and a good performance of their repertoire.
What you will learn in the course includes:
In the first session, Bernard introduces the ideal “holding of the bow”, including the technical advice you need to achieve it. It also includes a number of practical exercises for holding the bow and different bow directions.
A session dedicated to acquire mastery of the shifts. With exercises to develop the extreme sensation of change positions related to their required speed, and also building a completely accurate knowledge of the fingerboard.
An introduction to the geometric in space and the neuroscience of “engrams” - how our brains create memories. This technique enables students to gain mastery of their physical gestures in space, allowing them to achieve excellence in their global technique.
The practice of subtle shifting (including “chased-away”, a modern, innovative method of shifting & exercises for mastery of the fingerboard) and practical exercises for improving vibrato.
This session focuses on mastery of essential bow strokes (including staccato, spiccato, saltator, and ricochet) necessary for execution of the great repertoire (sonatas, concertos, chamber music, orchestras) in terms of phrasing and musical expression.
